St. John

 St. John

"Christ is 'like an abundant mine with many recesses of treasures, so that however deep individuals may go they never reach the end or bottom, but rather in every recess find new veins with new riches everywhere." Crossing the Threshold of Hope (page 128-129)

St. John was a believer who wrote the Sayings of Light and Love and the Cantacles and has interesting sayings about Scripture. St. John described that the Scriptures have infinite wealth of wisdom that no matter how many times we go to read Scripture, we are able to learn something new everytime. We learn that the Scriptures are important in our day to day lives and help us develop perseverance, character, wisdom, and fidelity to GOD Almighty.

Pope John Paul II described that St. John wrote about the importance of reading the Scriptures and also about practicing genuine empathy. We learn that the Scriptures encourage us and motivate us to keep learning wisdom that is from GOD Almighty. We learn that the wisdom of GOD Almighty sets us apart from the foolishness of idol worship. We learn to obey the commandments of Moses and keep going to Scripture each day so that we can keep developing wisdom.

"At the evening of our lives we will be judged on love."- The Saying of Light and Love (page 60)

St. John also described the importance of practicing genuine empathy. We learn that by practicing genuine empathy we can remove resentments, false "comparisons", anger, hate, envy, and coveting. We learn that the practice of genuine empathy allows us to practice equity, equality, and justice while developing ethics and morality. (We also need to avoid false prophets and adultresses that attempt to lead to idolatry and sin.)

We learn that we can not practice hostility and envy seen in the practice of idol worship and self-worship. Instead of envying and resenting others, we choose to remove negative emotions. We learn that at the end of the ages individuals will be judged based on if they were good and righteous or if they were wicked and idolatrous constistent with Matthew 25: 31-46. We learn to persevere practicing filial love and genuine empathy while avoiding false prophets and idolators.
