In the 1990s, idolatrous rap music began to be played on the radio in opposition to Reggae music. The idolatrous rap music may have had the intention to lead to conflict, bitterness, and coveting. This was because the idolatrous rap music preached dollar bills, lust, and materialism. Instead of preaching filial love and genuine empathy, it preached lasciviousness and lust. Idolatrous rap music also had the intention of dividing people based on which rapper they preferred. Idolatrous rap music was about boasting about materialism and money instead of pacifism and goodness. Idolatrous rappers also talked about the need to hate others instead of living in serenity. It may be that idolatrous rap was placed in the 1990s to oppose Reggae music. Bob Marley was probably hated and opposed by socialists for singing about pacifism, genuine empathy, and positivity. Regardless of the opposition, Bob Marley inspired Reggae musicians to make music about positivity and pacifism instead of envy and coveting.
